DEI

Donald Trump has railed about DEI Programs; and yesterday claimed Biden and DEI were responsible for the horrific air collision that killed 64 people.

But ironically it was Trump who, in 2019 created the FAA' s diversity program he. was railing against.  

More relevant, he fired the head of the FAA and others on 1/21/25. 

Then, without investigation or evidence, blames Obama, Biden, and DEI programs for the crash.

Nor is this the first time Trump or Republicans like Ted Cruz or Greg Abbot have politicized tragedy or outright lied. Famously Trump, Abbot, and Cruz stirred anti immigrant hatred with lies about a border agent who was killed after running his car into a culvert- claiming illegal immigrants had "crushed his skull with rocks".

I have read lots of slurs about "DEI"  students, workers, etc.

It seems "DEI" is the current euphemism for hiring women and non white men for jobs or admissions to colleges.

For those who dont know what DEI means " Diversity, equity and inclusion is a term used to describe policies and programs that promote the representation and participation of different groups of individuals. It includes such things as we were formerly used to calling "ADA compliance- accomodating worker needs, removing barriers, making the workplace useable by all employees. DEI encompasses people of different ages, races, ethnicities, abilities, disabilities, genders, religions, cultures and sexual orientations."

The reason such programs were created was historic systemic discrimination in America. Numerous groups of people have been victimized throughout this country's history. 

Natives were officially targetted for removal and genocide throughout the 18th century. 

Blacks were enslaved and considered non citizens until 1865; then deprived of rights by Jim Crow laws until 1964. I can remember schools being segregated; and separate water fountains etc.

Women could not vote or excercize full rights as citizens until 1920 and beyond. 

And today hispanics who cant prove their place of birth are targetted for deportation.

When I was young children born with cognitive decicits or physical deformities were placed in institutions and kept from public view; people with mental illness were locked away in assylums.

In colonial times freedom from or of religion did not exist, and folk were jailed or executed for witchcraft and heresy.

If any of this is unknown to you it is because we are not taught about actual history in schools. National mythologies take the place of Truth, just as they do in most nations.

From the outset wealthy white males, regardless of moral or intellectual qualities, have been given precedence, and government has assured their status and furthered their interests. Sadly this continues to be the case, and ignorant highly unqualified white males wind up in high office. Most surely a white skin and obscene wealth are not qualifications to do any job.

Diversity programs were created to level the playing field, to insure that the best qualified are given a chance to contribute to society. 

The hiring or promotion of the unqualified or unfit soley on the basis of their having wealth or having been born into a wealthy family is the true inequity and the actual cause of many of our problems.

Inept incompetent wealthy white men should not be given preference in this society.
