If you scrape this article down to the bone, the thing preventing the childs transplant is the parent's religious "beliefs."
The hospital's "belief" is in medical science.

 If a "christian" business such as a pharmacyg can deny service based on their beliefs then why cant a hospital deny service based on its beliefs?
Oh, wait: IF it is a "christian" hospital it can...

So in a society whose Constitution forbids the establishment of religion, "christianity" is given preference when a conflict of beliefs arises...ie it is THE established religion.
I was raised a Christian- before that became an excuse and cult for promoting right wing and Republican ideologies.

 But I was outraged in 2008 when I heard from pulpits and Bishops like Strickland that if we voted for Democratic candidates we would be guilty of "mortal sin."

They could piously ignore unjust Middle East wars, torture as an accepted state practice, violation of human and civil rights, and economic inequity and microfocus only on contraceptive practices. 

Tunnel visioned theology turned political. 

"Conservative" priests, preachers, and Bishops used churches to promote - under threat of Hell- the election of Republican polititians to office.

I stopped attending any church at that time and since. Disassociated and distanced myself from institutional religion and these sanctimonious hypocrites.

Instead I pray in secret at home, practice the teachings of Jesus quietly in daily life and interactions with others. I recommend others do the same.

I  do not refer to those who live simple lives and practice the morality taught in the Sermon on the Mount- inclusion, charity, humility and simplicity; but rather to the arrogant chicanery that has always associated itself with political power and wealth, condemned and crushed those who didnt accept it, and threatened its sheep with eternal torture unless they complied: "conservative christianity."

This kind of empty display of religiousity is exactly what Jesus railed against.

I would remind folks of the history of "conservative christianity". 

It gave Europe the Crusades, religious wars, the Inquisition, pogroms and genocides, persecuted scientists such as Galileo and Copernicus, and executed "heretics."

It supported dictators and tyrants like Franco.

In the US it brought witch trials and executions, trials for heresy, supported Native genocide and expropriation, black slavery, racial segregation. (And PS: the witch trials were not simply a local aberration in Salem. See also the trials in Connecticut)

 Religious zealotry has been a disease that has afflicted the US and Europe. And it still is.

I am disgusted with "christianity" based on these alleged believers and their degrading of standards morality and the corrupting of this country and its Constitution. 

Parents ought protect their children from exposure to this mind poison and we must do all within our power to keep it out of our public life.!

 Excuse my seeming lack of sympathy for this unfortunate 12 year old in need of a heart transplant. It is a sad case. Most sad is that she has parents using her as a political statement for their antivax and "religious" beliefs. 

I would think the rational thing to do as a parent would be to help their daughter obtain the needed vaccinations. Or for hospital staff to report them to Child Protective Services for child endangerment.

And then again, if these people sincerely believe that God will shield this poor child from covid and flu, them maybe they should ask for a miraculous heart cure.
